The Email That Started It All

September 05, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

I've been asked more times than I can count how I got in to photographing sports. As with anything there's a LOOOOONG story, and there's a short story. The long story is still developing, but the short story is "I sent an email"

And guess what, I found that email! So on what is the TEN (?!?!?!) year anniversary of sending that email, here it is!

The text:

Mr. Michael Pimentel and Mr. John Todd,

Hello, my name is Kelley Cox I am a sophomore at Berkeley with great enthusiasm for photography.  I am a part of the Rally Committee and enjoy taking photos while I am on the field waving the flag at Cal football games.  I am contacting you to see if you have or would be interested in creating an intern position with Golden Bear Sports.  Though I have only taken photos at Cal football games, I would be willing to go to all events that work with my class schedule and am confident in my ability to capture other sports.  I have attached some photos from last year's football games taken with a Canon Digital Rebel and after last season I purchased a telephoto lens in anticipation for some awesome shots this season.  I would love to take photos and help out.  Please contact me whether or not you are interested or if you have any questions.  Thanks!

Sincerely,

 Kelley Cox

And in all their glory, here's the images I included:

Man, I've come a long a way since those days ;)

I'm so thankful for the opportunity that Golden Bear Sports gave me.
