The Latest Game I've Ever Photographed
This Monday I photographed the Giants v Dodgers game which after a rain delay, didn't restart the first inning until 10:50pm!!
I was doubling up and rushing to get from Cal Men's Rowing Headshots over the Bridge to be at AT&T Park by 6pm. This is later than usual for me as I tend to enjoy taking my time and eating in the press box. Thanks to the SID, MC who made sure things ran smoothly and I was out the door by 5pm, traffic wasn't terrible and I arrived in plenty of time for press box meal. Little did I know, how much time I would really have.
First the game was delayed from 7pm to 7:55pm due to lightning. I tried to photograph some of it but it of course didn't work out nearly as great as Ezra Shaw's version.
Finally the game started. Chris Stratton got one batter out.
By the time Corey Seager came up to the plate it was just DUMPING. (Pro tip: I slowed the shutter down to 1/250th to show the rain as streaks instead of dots you'd get at faster speeds 1/800, though shooting at effectively 600mm gotta be reallllllly steady or turn on IS image stabilization)
So game was postponed AGAIN. This time we had no idea whether it would be another rain delay or or just cancelled entirely. I tried to go up top again to make photos... got pretty much nothing.
I hung out with the grounds crew underground in the hallway between the dugout and Giants locker room.
(While taking this foot photo, Brandon Crawford walked by, I quickly brought my leg back down, embarrassed to have a player recognize me as "the girl who takes pictures of her feet")
And we waited and waited... while the powers that be discussed options.
Finally they called it would restart at 10:50pm.
At that point AP photographer Marcio Sanchez had to leave and be replaced by Tony Avelar because Marcio had to cover the apple event the following morning. And one of the Giants team photographers, Suzanna Mitchell, left, the other team photographer Andy Kuno, was there and she's a nursing mom. Perks of being staff I suppose! Ultimately, it was a fast game, I would have lost my sanity if it went extra innings! Leaving the stadium just after 2am.
